Screen Capture Frequently Asked Questions

These FAQ's often relate to rare issues encountered in the first year of producing videos:

  1. Why does the sound stop or become distorted during a recording?
  2. Why does my Play back file start at a different position, not everything has been recorded?
  3. Why during a recording occasionally does the double mouse click to open a file in some applications not work?
  4. Device Error when I start to record with Encoder 9
  5. In the Workshop pages the Session parameter file wants to play as music?

1 -Why does the sound stop or become distorted during a recording?

This can be caused by a number of reasons, but all relate to the computer system at the time being overloaded. It could be caused by a back ground process, for example you email monitoring program. If this occurs on a regular basis then you need to consider optimizing your machine.

The simplest item items to change are the quality of your Screen, you do not need to have a screen colour quality set to High 32 bit, medium 16 bit is still very good quality.

You could also change the Screen Capture video quality to a lower level.

Increasing the memory is not necessarily the solution because it is the processor that is interrupted from saving all your information into the file.

2 -Why does my Play back file start at a different position, not everything has been recorded?

The immediate solution is to record again. You may be moving back and forth through the file and this causes a delay in recording all the information; consider pausing the recording moving to the section in question and then starting encoding again.

3 -Why during a recording occasionally does the double mouse click to open a file in some applications not work?

Occasionally there can be a conflict between the recording software and an application. Most applications have developed solution for this by offering the action required in a list format which you can select from. For example in Windows Explorer you can select to "open" a file as well as double clicking on the file name.

4 -Device Error when I start to record with Encoder 9

This error occurs under windows 7 and is normally caused by the microphone not being attached to the PC before the software is executed. Attach the microphone and execute the application.

5 -In the Workshop pages the Session parameter file wants to play as music?

This is a technical issue, if the session parameter file has not been associated with the Media Encoder your PC may try to open this file as Music. If the session parameter file dose not open the encoder application, cancel the action. Open Media Encoder and follow the instructions in "How do I create the video feedback Using Encoder 9" about defining the session parameters. After creating and saving the first session parameter file through the Media Encoder the association should be made and the correct software will open when you select a "wme" extension file.
